About Lori B Waxenberg

Dr. Waxenberg is a Board Certified Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology.  She specializes in working with people who experience chronic pain and chronic illness by using interventions such as relaxation, meditation, activity pacing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help cope with pain and discomfort and to improve quality of life.

Clinical Profile

Dr. Waxenberg specializes in working with people who are experiencing chronic pain and chronic illness. She serves as a consultation/liaison to multiple clinics and physicians at the UF Health. Dr. Waxenberg utilizes a variety of psychology interventions to treat people who have pain and illness, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Dr. Waxenberg is the training director for the predoctoral internship program in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology and enjoys providing clinical supervision to the graduate students, interns and postdoctoral fellows.

Research Profile

Dr. Waxenberg’s research interests have been informed by her clinical work and vice versa. Her overarching goals are to better understand and serve patients with chronic pain and to add to the evidence base to better inform the treatments of those patients. Dr. Waxenberg has served as a collaborator on several research projects at the University of Florida Department of Clinical and Health Psychology as well as the Digital Health Research at the University of Oslo. Her research interests include patient centered outcomes in chronic pain, pain management digital app development and the interaction of pain and sleep.
