About Lisa M King
Dr. Lisa King is a Licensed Psychologist and Board Certified in Clinical Psychology. She is also a Certified Addiction Professional and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
In addition to being the Director of UF Health Psychology Specialties, Dr. King leads a General Mental Health Team consisting of Master’s prepared therapists providing clinical services to adolescents and adults. The Team provides evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior-informed Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure and Exposure with Response Prevention. Services include group and individual therapy for Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, relationship concerns, self-harming behaviors, suicidal ideation, substance use concerns, disordered eating patterns, grief, adjustment concerns, and support for LGBT individuals and their family members. The Team also specializes in treating medical and other health professionals and students.
Dr. King created and implemented a DBT program for adolescents and adults with suicidal ideation, self-harming and other ineffective coping behaviors. The program helps patients decrease these behaviors, learn to cope with intense emotions, and improve interactions with others. Patients attend both weekly Skills Classes and individual sessions. Parents are required to attend Classes with their adolescent in order to develop their own practice of skills and to assist their adolescent to grow and develop as they progress into adulthood.

Clinical Profile
In her role in the Department, Dr. King is the Director of UF Health Psychology Specialties and leads a General Mental Health Team at the Haile location, consisting of Master’s prepared therapists providing clinical services to adolescents and adults. The team provides evidence-based treatment for patients with a wide range of concerns, including depressive and anxious disorders, emotion dysregulation, trauma responses, self-harming behaviors, concerns with binge or emotional eating, and OCD, among others. The team works largely from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy perspective, often incorporating elements of Mindfulness. Dr. King also provides training for pre- and post-doctoral psychology trainees. She thoroughly enjoys and supervising students and early career therapists, and has been fortunate to do so throughout her career.
Dr. King created and implemented a DBT-informed program treating adolescents and adults with suicidal ideation, and self-harming and other ineffective coping behaviors. The program’s aim is to help patients decrease ineffective and self-harming behaviors, increase ability to cope with intense emotions, and become more effective in their interactions with others. Patients admitted to Dr. King’s DBT Program attend weekly Skills Classes, in addition to weekly individual sessions. PARENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND Skills Classes with their adolescent; this helps parents develop their own practice of skills so they can assist their adolescents to grow and develop as they progress into adulthood.
